| Sicily, Naxos; Litra, 420-403 BC, .86g. Cahn-138 V83/R112 (only two recorded). Obv: Dionysus facing left, wearing ivy wreath; ethnic in front of face. Rx: Small bunch of grapes hanging from twig with four leaves of different sizes. Only two other coins are recorded from these dies. They are vastly inferior to this coin and in the Naples museum. While these coins are normally heavily crystallized, this example is not. Struck on a broad flan, this coin is an exquisite example of this rare and desirable city. EF |
